Happy August Everyone!

Here’s hoping you all are having the best summer ever! Ryley and I just got back from Vacation in BC and had a great time, we sure aren’t used to that kind of heat that’s for sure.

Laura has been holding down the fort, thanks to you all for keeping her busy in our absence and for keeping on checking the site, I see our numbers continue to grow! That’s just spectacular!

Hard to believe that summer is almost over, and that the kids are just about heading back for another year. When did Ryley grow up? He’s heading into grade five and all of a sudden cares what his back to school clothes look like! ZOIKS am I really old enough to have a kid in grade five??? Aaahhhh! Ok just counted 10 more grey hairs! I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this way! Well back to the task at hand:

We’re looking at making some changes to the site in the fall, (keep checking back often!) hopefully you’ve been noticing what a great job Laura is doing with re-organizing things. If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to email Laura at laura@scrapbooking.ca also if you notice any problems with the site, images or categories etc that would be greatly appreciated as well. We do have a HUGE site with more products on there than we can keep track of and so thank you in advance for your help and for your help!

It never ceases to amaze me just how many new products are coming out all the time, scrapbooking just keeps expanding and growing! With this comes newer and more advanced products. I often get asked if I still recommend the pioneer deluxe albums. Up until about a year ago I’d have to have said yes, here is what my current opinion is:

Pioneer deluxe: Don’t get me wrong these are still great albums, they are sturdy and reliable and a great value for the dollar. For sure an industry bench mark. The fabric coating is on all sides of the binding making them wonderfully strong, they lie nice and flat as well. The downsides are that the pages that you work on aren’t true 12x12 and so need minor trimming before decorating as well as the refills don’t come with the option of no paper ( one hint in my experience is to order black refills as myself I use WAY more black for matting etc than white.). These are not to be confused with the regular pioneer albums, which are definitely not as durable, and a far cry from these superior albums. These albums are a perfect transition from those looking to switch from the strap style album as the size difference wouldn’t matter (as the strap albums always have not been true 12x12) and it opens up so many new options with coloured and patterned paper and top loading option.

Making Memories Perfect Fit Albums: Right now these are the ones that are holding top prize in my books for the most well rounded album. They are available in 12 great colours, start with 20 page protectors, the plastic for the page protectors are a heavier gauge than the competition, the refills (25 to a pack!) are really to my liking as they don’t come with paper (which I almost always do a page on a colour other than black or white), if I had to nit pick I’d say it would be nice if their refills came with post extensions, though the pioneer are universal and do just fine. The cost of the refills are great and the pages lie nice and flat. Best of all the paper you work on is true 12x12. These also are available in 6x6 in a great kit with extras to make that special album for an event or gift.

Forever Yours Albums: OK these are simply in a league of their own, by far the BEST post album on the market. The spine balancing system is amazing, no more cardboard fillers or gaps, there is no seeing the posts, sadly photos on the site can’t do these justice! The plastic for the page protectors are the best! The cost is more for sure but honestly I personally wish I could go back to the days when I worried about the cost of the actual album as being a factor in how much a completed book costs ha ha ha, the embellishments and tools etc that I “think” I need have far surpassed the cost of the album! Now more about the albums, they are a triple post for added stability and right now we have in stock the leather collection as well as the 8x8, and can get other styles and covers on a request basis. Look at www.foreveryoursbook.com for all the colours and styles available. The Leather collection is perfect for that heritage or wedding album when nothing but the best will do. Careful though once you start with them you won’t be able to go back!

Well I hope you enjoyed the comparison between the 3 featured albums above and hope that you find it helpful the next time you’re needing a new album. It was fun to write and feel free to email me at rhea@scrapbooking.ca if you’d like to see another product featured or compared.
