Happy Canada Day !!!

WOW this time of year again! What a great year we’ve had thus far and we’re thrilled to be sharing this great holiday with you our customers!

School’s out the kids are home it’s all good. Yesterday we had 25 grade 6 kids here for a BBQ and Party, music blaring, water fights, food, fun and friends. This is what Summer memories are made of!

Here are a few items of interest:

Cricut
OK do I dread the day I ever first heard that word? Almost! Our supplier has been short shipped and so we haven’t rec’d any yet. As these are backordered everywhere they are like hens teeth, very hard to come by. We’ll be filling orders in the order in which they were rec’d. I’ll be calling before we ship so you can add if you need to. * be patient Karen* (tee hee)

There has been quite the demand for the accessories, we’ll be servicing our customers who have purchased their machines through us FIRST and if there are extras then we’ll make those available as stock allows.

Shipping

Well I’ve been working with the new electronic shipping tools for a bit now and it’s worked out really good. More work on my end for sure as each package has to be weighed and measured before finishing the invoicing but alas it’s fine.

Once invoiced I credit back 3% of your total purchase towards the actual shipping costs.

I’ve been very pleased that more than 95% of our customers are paying LESS than the old flat rate shipping! Lots of the packages are shipping only costing you the customer $3-4 to get down east! Fantastic! We’ve been super happy with the response, you love getting the tracking info direct from Canada post and the savings have been substantial for you all, that’s great!!!

If you need any info on the shipping feel free to drop me a line.

The Skinny on Trimmers

Well this article is long over due! Day in and Day out I see gals buying 3,4 even 12 packs of refill blades for their fiskars standard trimmer and I'll phone them and say, do you realize that there are other options? once clearly presented in perspective often they make a change. Myself there is nothing like a clean edge, my pet peeve is burrs, that’s the flakey kinda edges along the cardstock or pictures! Bleck my rule of thumb is that if you’ve spent over $500 on Scrapbooking supplies you probably shouldn’t be using a $25 trimmer, and if you just love the fiskars trimmers you should look at it is as a tool that is “disposable” and replace your trimmer when it just isn’t doing what you need it to.

OK Here's the run down!

Fiskars trimmers

Pros:

· good first trimmer

· easier to cut small pieces

· has a swing out arm

· portable and lightweight

· easy to score

· easy to use

· low cost $25

Cons:

· after a while doesn't cut straight (indeed the triple track is better than the orginal)

· no interchangable blades other than cut & score

· hard to double mat, blade is too short

· goes through blades like water! and yes they are pricey! Add up how many you’ve bought and probably could have had yourself a nice carl trimmer some time ago!

Rotary Trimmers

This category would include any trimmers that (ok and this is going to sound funny) have round blades! imagine that J

Right now I stock 2 different affordable ones, the cutterpede and the carl. Both are really good and cut nice and clean, both offer lots of blade options, scoring, perforating, fancy edges and on and on. You need to press down with these systems rather than dragging along the paper but just like any other tool once you get used to it it’s great.

The cutterpede has the swing out arm, funky colour and is smaller. I use the small cutterpede for cardmaking at the lake and wee jobs , I actually have it in the cropper hopper deluxe supply case, the one that’s about 8.5x11, great for super portability. The blades come in cartridges and are well priced.

For a take along trimmer for scrapbooking I reach for the carl, it’s super easy to see where you’re cutting, nice and light, good surface to cut on and easily does the double matting that I love. for the carl I like it that the blades store under the trimmer (up to 3 additional blades) and that the mats too store inside. I’m the one that is forever looking for stuff! I’d say for the dollar the Carl is your top choice, really nice and versatile, great all round trimmer. To me it seems like a more substantial trimmer “skukum” is a word I’d use, you feel like you’ve got something in your hand with this timmer, you don’t feel like you’ll break it! We’ve special ordered in the Carl 210 trimmers for the stampin up gals who are after that specific trimmer, it will take a while but I am taking names for when they arrive. Contact me for more info

In my craft room I use the rotatrim trimmer and LOVE it but understand that indeed it’s out of the price range for many. I love that it has that other arm that slides back and forth and you can secure it along the rail so that it’s easy to cut the same size over and over, great for cardmaking! I know several SU demos that have this one and wouldn’t use anything else. It does have quite a “footprint” for desk space uses a lot of space. But is totally worth it! The blade is self sharpening and is drafting quality. Awesome trimmer. I’m expecting the next shipment should be able to be priced lower due to the stronger CND dollar! Good news!

I hope you’ve found this helpful, do let me know if you have further questions.
