June Newsletter for

R&R Scrapbooking

I know every time you see the opening line of this newsletter you could just about predict that I’m going to say how time is flying and how amazingly busy we are here.  Well same goes!  Ryley’s just about done grade 7, impossible to imagine! You know when he brought home exam schedules and forms as to what we’d like him to do after exams, to go home or study at school or the like, it all came crashing back to me, and you know it didn’t seem so terribly long ago!!!  Exam schedules, study days etc. really I’m not that old … am I?  ZOIKS!

For someone who’s trying to ramp down for the summer, you sure wouldn’t know it by my buying patterns! Why is it I just can’t stop buying? I’m in a bad way…

** Anything underlined in this newsletter is Hyperlinked to that product on our site for your convenience, just mouse over it and click and you’ll be directed to that page **

Here’s a run down of some of the newest things in the store.

-         Bind it all. Hokie Dynah these sure are flying out of here.  Our initial shipment of 20 was gone the first day, as more come in we dare not even find a spot for them!

o       They do not come with any wires, we’re waiting for the availability of consumer ready packaging. Currently I can only reliably get the bulk wires and they are not at all suited for mail order. They get tangled easily and I really don’t have the patience for the likes of  the knot of Christmas Lights on National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (if you haven’t seen this movie it’s a must see come Christmas..)  I’m working on getting some special ordered that hopefully will be competitively priced.

o       The machine is very easy to use, and is ultra small and light weight, yet substantial enough to handle the job!

o       It punches easily through chipboard and other materials, such as CDs and other media that is all the rage for altered projects.

o       We’re pleased that it comes with a DVD of projects and directions I for one am not the biggest fan of instruction booklets!

-         New Disney punches

-         ATG Guns and refills

-         New Provocraft clipboards thicker than office supply ones and come with hardware on the back for easy hanging.

-         New Sesame Street Fastenator staples

-         WOW the WR memory keepers metal letters and hardware

-         New Dove Blender pens, nibs and refills.

-         Fantastic deal on the beads and glitter packs

-         Sandylion Disney Idea book

-         Chatterbox Doodle Genies

-         NEW K and Co Paper packs and some of the ones that we were sold out of are now back in stock, amazing deal, don’t discount some packs that you think you don’t have subject pictures for, for example some of the brownie or scout packs, there are 2 sides to the papers, awesome quality!

-         Cuttlebug embossing templates are all stocked up and ready to go, the only 2 styles we don’t have in are sledding and Spot & Dots.

More New Marvy clever lever punches are here as well this week. Be sure to order early. For those of you who have dropped off the face of the earth for the last year, these are THE HOTTEST punches and the biggest must have.  Looking for ideas take a look on www.splitcoaststampers.com for ideas.  The cutest and easiest is to punch eyelet – ish holes in each of the bumps of the scallops.  You can do this with your fiskars edge shaper scissors as well, in almost any pattern

I’m taking special orders for the Ranger Alcohol Ink 3 packs ($12.00 ea). With the stronger CND dollar we’re looking at suppliers that we hadn’t used in years due to the cost factors, brokerage etc but now things are really starting to be competitive again.  Which in turn allows us to offer greater selection and a nice price point.

Here is an idea that will be sure to be a hit! This time of year teacher gifts and memories of a great school year are always at the forefront.  Skip the “greatest teacher mugs” and the bath products try CANVAS!  From the smallest of say 4x4 to the largest 24x24 you will only be limited by your imagination.  The small ones are great for a handprint of your wee one.  But think now of the largest, you can get the whole class in on the fun here are some ideas…

-         Divide the canvas into equal squares one per student

-         Let the kids decide how to personalize their space.

-         Or you can leave it completely open ended!

-         Children can also create their contribution away from the canvas and have it added, more of a modge podge idea.

-         Use acrylic paints, you can add photos with adhesive such as glue dots or the ATG gun, rather than leaving it totally open ended with colours choose colours that will produce a nice end product, pull out your colour wheel! Or stick with just one of the Pebbles or MM paint sets; sometimes too many colours in the project make it look less appealing.

-         Finish up the edges with dry rubbing on more paint; add brads and other metal embellishments to turn your canvas into a work of art.

-         Protect it with grime guard spray in either matte or glossy.

Looking for other ideas? How about a clock…we have 2 kinds  or clipboard?

A recipe tin was a fantastic idea that a customer just shared with me.  Where by each of the families supply a couple of their favorite recipes for the teacher into a fancied up tin, and then include a gift certificate to a local grocery store! Teachers eat during the summer as well J and the recipes go a long way come fall, when the pace picks up again!

Search Methods for R&R Site

Sometimes I get asked how to find something on our site.  It’s actually pretty easy. I know we have a very “low tech” site, there are a bunch of reasons for this, the biggest however is that LOTS of our customers are rural and on dial up.  Fancy shopping carts and lots of coding slows down pages.  Our site by many accounts is HUGE, we have thousands and thousands of products and sometime we know you don’t have the time to browse though in your PJ’s sipping your tea.  Here is a thumbnail of how to look for an item on our site:

1.      Start anywhere on the site. www.scrapbooking.ca

2.      Go to the products page button

3.      Scroll down under the table of categories, put your key word in the find box

4.      You can specify brand, price, subject, category etc, keep in mind that it will only search what is on the site, for example if you do a search for wedding and there is a product with the word love in the title you’ll miss the love products… so when looking generally do more than one search, think like a thesaurus

5.      There will be numbered search results, assuming we have something on our site with that subject, they will have a brief outline that you should be able to ascertain whether or not it’s what you’re after. (there will also be advertising up top, that has nothing to do with us and if you click on those you’ll be directed away from our site)

6.      Click on the link next to the number, it will take you to that page, so for example if you’ve chosen zoo and then clicked on the link to the Karen Foster paper you’ll find yourself at the top of the Karen Foster Paper page.

7.      Now this next step is a handy trick you can use all over the web, assuming you’re using explorer.  Go under the edit button and select find on this page, then type in your keyword and it will save you scrolling down and down to find what you’re after!

8.      If that’s going to fit the bill for what you need you can just cut and paste into an email that you have open and then just send it off to me J It’s just that easy.
