Happy National Scrapbooking  Day!

You know yesterday was the 4th of May, I heard the funniest thing on the radio… I only wish I could have taken credit for it. Are you ready? ….. may the 4th be with you! Ha ha ha I laughed so hard.  Even tried it out on  my Dr’s receptionist, it was a hit.  I’ll have to mark my calendar for next year.

I haven’t been so sold on the whole Spring thing yet, I don’t know about the rest of the country but Edmonton has been a far cry from spring flowers!  The snow is still visible in some places of shade, the rain and overcast is getting really old and the cold, well I dare say no one that I know isn’t DONE with that!

This summer will be 9 years for R&R Scrapbooking, and I’m still waiting for the day that this business does anything but slow down!  Certainly if we look at how much busier we’ve gotten even since say the fall, it’s crazy, and there is so sign of  it slowing down.  I know that’s supposed to be a good thing, and it is, I really would much rather be busy than not but some days it sure would be nice to have a minute to take a break and sleep.  Recently my accountant asked me how big our advertising budget is I just laughed, nothing I said!  Seriously and I’ve said this for years that in this industry you shouldn’t need to advertise, you give one woman a fair price and excellent service and she’ll have the biggest yapper on the planet and do all your advertising for you! Thanks Ladies!

In consideration of the above paragraph, I have written my fair share of newsletters.  If you have suggestions for topics that you’d like me to cover I’m always open to suggestions.  I’m not the authority on everything but those who know me of course know that I for sure have an opinion on everything !

I’m not inspired about a specific topic right now so thought I’d answer a few FAQ’s of late.

The most common of which are:

  1. Do you have or can you get those Marvy scalloped punches that I see on split coast stampers?
    1. I know exactly which ones you’re after and have had them on order since mid September!
    2. Rest assured just as soon as I can get them I’ll post them on the site.  Your best bet is to keep checking the what’s new section.
    3. I’m not taking names for them, I’ve found that scrapbookers are by nature impatient and regardless of the price, once they have a chance to get what they need for their “fix” they’re going to get it. (sound familiar)?  LOL
    4. Some have found that the cuttlebug set of 4 scalloped squares and circles are fitting the bill for the smaller projects, of course everyone is after the mega and giga sizes.  I don’t know of anything other than those punches that will work.
  1. Do you have the Cuttlebug machine in stock?
    1.  The first thing that I’m going to mention is that the cuttlebug  machine is not as “substantial” as the Sizzix big kick.  The long and short of this question is yes I can get the CB machine, but I do make sure that customers are made aware of the differences, pros and cons of the machines.
    2. The machines do the same job, there is a bunch more options with the sizzix big kick and it’s our first recommendation.
    3. The price difference is for sure there,
    4. If you might be looking at products outside of the CB line you may run into problems.  We have had 2 customers come to us for a big kick after returning their CB machine due to the CB cracking the sizzix plates.  I know that on the machine it states that it works with the “leading manufacturer” meaning sizzix… but that’s like calling “Campbell’s mushroom soup  the same as “no name brand mushroom soup” .  That being said if you are only using Cuttlebug products in the Cuttlebug machine you should be just fine.
    5. The CB machine is smaller but in that it is also less stable on a desktop.  It is more portable as well.
    6. Another thing to consider is that  you may be able to use more of what you already have with the sizzix.  For example depending upon how long you’ve been in the craft you may have brass templates, or the old fiskars embossing plates, with the sizzix texture starter kit that has the silicone rubber pad you can use these products for embossing.  The texture starter kits have been backordered to us for a while but we are backordering them for those who need them.
    7. The CB machine comes with only the basic pads while the big kick starter kit comes with the multi-purpose platform, dies and a whole lot more.  I dare say a better value.  In my humble opinion.  But you asked!
  1. I’m after those Cuttlebug Embossing dies….
    1. You are in good company! They are super popular, we’re doing our best to keep a decent supply of them but they are regularly backordered.
    2. I can make a note on your account for the ones that you’re after but please keep in mind that by the time we get around to looking into the backorders they have often come and gone.
  1. What’s happening with Ellison?
    1. Well the best we can understand right now it looks like they are discontinuing the entire line.
    2. We are also being told that the most popular Ellison items will be re-released under the Sizzix name with new packaging etc
    3. So in short we’re going to need to go through what is on our site and remove anything not in stock. We will not be able to order more.
    4. Any Ellison products on file for customers will be cancelled.

Well now with that housekeeping out of the way on to the good stuff!

We’re of course going to have a great
